File Setup

We love happy customers and are proud to send out high quality print projects.
The first step to a great printed product is a well prepared file. Here are some tips to think about when creating your files.

1. The Best File Type

PDF - with 3mm bleed & crop marks

We can print from most files and will try our best with JPEG, Word / Excel / PowerPoint, PSD, EPS, TIFF - but best results usually come from high quality PDF files.
It is best to use high resolution images (300dpi) and export to PDF using the 'Press Quality' setting (not the default standard setting).

2. Include Bleed:

Bleed is the printing that goes beyond the edge of the sheet before trimming. In other words, the bleed is the area to be trimmed off.
If you have colour to the edge of your page, you will need to supply your file with 3mm bleed to ensure there are no white edges after trimming.

3. Colour Matching:

Do you have specific colours to match to? As a Digital Printer we print with CMYK process using 4 toners to create a solid colour.
Where large offset printers will mix up a Pantone Spot colour like a paint we will do our best to match it using the digital process - some variation can occur.
Our best tip would be to give us a printed example of the colour for us to match to.

4. Printing Black:

There is more than 1 type of black when it comes to printing.

Single colour black
100% black and 0% of any other colour.
Should be used for small coverage like text or small logos.
Should not be used for larger areas as can appear washed out.

Rich black
A mixture of solid black over one or more of the other CMYK colors, ex. 100% black and 40% Cyan.
Should be used for larger areas to ensure it is a solid dark black print.
Should not be used for smaller areas like text as a slight misalignemnt of the two colours will produce a blurry effect.
